UPDATE: As of 1/04/2021 some WHS Sports have returned to Phase 1 (in person) practices with more sports returning to Phase 1 practices in the coming weeks. You will receive information from your coach as to how your sport will proceed. Students participating in Phase 1 practices must be cleared through AthleticClearance.com AND submit the COVID Protocol Agreement to their coach before they will be allowed to participate.
UPDATE: The CIF announced on 12/18/2020 that the Boys’ Volleyball competitive season has been moved to Season 2 (Spring).
UPDATE: With the increase in COVID cases statewide and the most recent Stay-at-Home order going into effect for Southern California, the CVUSD has decided to move all High School sports back into Phase 1 of the Activities and Athletics Reopening Protocol beginning 12/14/2020. Phase 1 protocol involves much stronger restrictions on practice activities than Phase 2; therefore, most WHS sports have chosen NOT to participate in Phase 1 practices. Instead, they will return to Zoom meetings/workouts until further notice. Coaches will be reaching out to their athletes to let them know how their sport will proceed.
In addition, the CIF released a statement on 12/16/20 saying the start of Season 1 (Fall) sports would not begin any sooner than 1/25/2021. The CIF will also follow new CDPH guidlines which limits which sports are allowed to compete based on a county’s tier classification (if a regional stay at home order is not in place). Click this LINK to read the entire CIF statement.
On 12/01/2020, the CIF announced that the start of the Fall Sports Season (Season 1) has been put on hold due to an increase in COVID cases state-wide. They also made the decision to cancel Regional and State Championships for most of the Fall sports with the exception of Boys’ Volleyball which was moved to the end of the Spring Season (Season 2). The CIF plans to give another update on the status of Fall and Spring sports on January 19, 2021. Please follow this LINK to see the official announcement.
In addition to the CIF’s announcement, Governor Newsom announced new COVID restrictions for the state of California based on hospital capacity by region. Since these new guidelines state that schools that have resumed “in-person” learning will be allowed to continue “in-person” learning, WHS sports will continue with Phase 2 practices (for those sports that choose to do so). If you are unsure of your sport’s practice plans, please contact the head coach.
